Vailea (“we”, “us”) helps people care for houseplants through our website, email tools, and mobile app. This policy explains what we collect and why.
Who we are
Vailea is operated as an independent plant-care product. For privacy requests, contact us at support@vailea.app.
What we collect
- Email address — when you submit a form on our landing pages to receive results or tips.
- Anonymous identifiers — a visitor ID and app user ID generated on your device to measure funnel performance and improve the product.
- Plant photos — if you use scan/diagnosis in the app, photos you choose to upload are sent to our servers for analysis. We do not access your camera roll without your action.
- Onboarding preferences — experience level, room/light context, pets, and goals you select in the app.
- Usage events — actions such as app open, scan started, plant saved, and similar product analytics.
- Attribution data — campaign parameters (e.g. which landing page or post led you here) stored in URLs or cookies to understand what content works.
- Technical data — device type, app version, and standard server logs (IP address, user agent) for security and reliability.
How we use information
- Deliver plant-care guidance, reminders, and saved plant profiles.
- Send email results and optional lifecycle tips you signed up for.
- Measure and improve our funnel, content, and app experience.
- Connect your app install to an earlier email signup when possible.
- Keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Where applicable, we rely on:
- Consent — email marketing and optional photo analysis.
- Contract — providing the app and tools you request.
- Legitimate interests — analytics, security, and product improvement.
Third-party services
We use infrastructure and service providers that may process data on our behalf:
- Cloudflare — hosting, API, database, and queues.
- Resend — transactional and lifecycle email (when enabled).
- OpenAI — plant photo analysis when an API key is configured.
- Apple / Google — app distribution platforms (see their policies).
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and local storage
Our website may set a visitor cookie (vd_visitor) to preserve
attribution across pages. The app stores preferences and anonymous IDs locally on
your device.
Retention
- Email leads — until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
- Analytics events — typically up to 24 months, then aggregated or deleted.
- Plant photos for diagnosis — processed for the request; not kept as a permanent gallery unless you save a plant profile locally on device.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from emails via the link in any message.
- Reset onboarding in the app Settings to clear local profile preferences.
- Delete the app to remove locally stored data on your device.
- Request access, correction, or deletion by emailing support@vailea.app. We respond within 30 days.
Children
Vailea is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA where applicable). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
International transfers
Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards where required by law.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-app notice.
